About Dr. Gardner
Dr. Dan Gardner is a board-certified psychiatrist and trained psychoanalyst practicing in San Diego with decades of experience. Educated at Northwestern University — earning both his B.S. in Medicine and his M.D. in the Honors Program — he completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco, followed by his psychiatry residency at UCSD School of Medicine, where he also served as Chief Resident in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at University Hospital San Diego.
Following residency, Dr. Gardner pursued graduate training in Adult Psychoanalysis through the San Diego Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, where he served on the faculty and Executive Committee of the Board of Directors.
Dr. Gardner brings a genuinely collaborative spirit to his practice — building trusting, respectful relationships that lead to greater self-understanding, self-confidence, and fulfillment in personal and professional life. He also provides consultation to mental health therapists and healthcare providers on patient interaction, treatment challenges, and career development.
